Scott & Co'a yesterday, for the pur pose of running a pipe into the new bank building, was prostrated from the effects of escaping gas, and had to be lifted out ot the ditch and sent home in a wagon. Early Closing of Storks. An understanding has been entered into by a number otour leading merchants by which their stores will be closed every evening, except Sst-rday, from May :3th to Oct. ist, at 7 o'clock. This arrangement will conduce large ly to the benefit of all, especially of those who toil behind the counter, and we congratulate the parties on their having come to such ft conclu sion. .The preparations for the Battle Ground Celebration are reported as complete.
